Group Study Room Guidelines for Use

  • Group Study Rooms are available for SMC student groups needing a private study space. The rooms are not available for single student use.

  • Students make their own reservations through LibCal, the online room reservation system at

  • Reservations are made in 30 minute increments for up to 3 hours per day, up to 7 days in advance.

  • You may only have one active room reservation at a time.

  • After 15 minutes a group fails to appear, the reservation can be cancelled by Library staff and the room can be scheduled for another group. This is also true if only one person is using a room intended for group use. Groups must make a reservation to secure unoccupied study rooms. Groups with reservations will be given priority over any other individual or group occupying a study room without a reservation.

  • Rooms are meant to be shared by as many student groups as possible. Back-to-back and/or multiple reservations by a group are not allowed and may be cancelled by library staff if rooms are in high demand.

  • You must bring proof of confirmation and a second person when you come to the room to claim your slot – a printout, saved email or screenshot on phone, laptop, or other device, etc.

  • Do not leave the room unattended. The key may not be taken out of the Library.

  • Groups are responsible for the condition of the room. Users of the group study rooms must clean up after themselves, and leave the room in good condition for the next users, including erasing the white board.

  • Dry-erase marker and eraser packs are available to check out at the Library Service Desk.

  • While the group study rooms are designed for group use, they are not soundproof. Please be considerate of other library users and maintain reasonable noise levels. To prevent noise from leaving the room, the door should be closed when the room is occupied.

  • Library furniture from other locations may not be moved into study rooms.

  • The Library is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal property. If you leave the room unattended, you risk the loss of your possessions. Lost and Found items are deposited at the Library Service Desk on the 1st floor.


Occupants of Group Study Rooms (or any area in the Library) may be asked to leave the area or the Library for inappropriate behavior or for failure to follow these Group Study Room Guidelines for Use, Saint Albert  Library policies and  the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Code of Conduct Policy. Failure to follow the room policies or the online reservation policies/limits will result in the loss of Group Study Room privileges and your email will be blocked by the online reservation system.
