Lauren MacDonald, Dean of the Library and Academic Resources | Director, Museum of Art



Lauren M. MacDonald is the Dean of the Library and Academic Resources and Director for the Museum of Art at Saint Mary's College of California. Dean MacDonald has worked as an academic librarian and teaching faculty at the San Francisco Art Institute, California College of the Arts, Dominican University of California, and a number of California community colleges. Prior to coming to Saint Mary’s College, MacDonald was the Head Librarian at the San Francisco Art Institute. Dean MacDonald is an Architectural Historian and has participated in historic preservation projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and the California Central Valley.

Dean MacDonald believes that the library is the nexus of the college, where student learning and research, and faculty research for teaching and scholarship are supported. She leads a creative and innovative team of librarians, library staff, and museum staff who actively support the educational mission of the college. As collaborators in learning, the library and museum create inclusive and sustainable collections, services, spaces, and events that provide direct research and learning support, art and design experiences, and outreach activities to students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Dean MacDonald is an author and co-author of publications in the fields of Library Science, Art, and Architecture. She is involved in a number of professional organizations and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Art Libraries Society of North America. She holds a B.A. in Art History and History from Dominican University of California, a M.A. in Architectural History from the University of Virginia, and a M.S. in Library and Information Science from Drexel University.
