Pew Social and Demographic Trends - Reports on a wide variety of social trends from the Pew Research Center - Publishes the results of current polls. National data is free; state level data requires membership. Great resource!

Data Sets

Council of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA) - This site "promotes the acquisition, archiving and distribution of electronic data for social science teaching and research in Europe." Through its "Catalogue" it allows you to search a common catalog for data archives of all member organizations.

General Social Survey Data and Information Retrieval System - From the University of Michigan, the GSS is a personal interview survey of U.S. households conducted by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC). Queens College provides software to download the information and an electronic searchable version of NORC's annotated bibliography of papers using the General Social Surveys.

Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) - A collection of data sets available to researchers for a fee.

Social Science Data Analysis Network (SSDAN) - From University of Michigan, a network of census datasets and class exercises, for "hands on" data analysis. Datasets are from US census materials from 1950 through 1990, and are appropriate for use in such topics as: immigration, children, the elderly, and marriage.

Social Science Data Collection - From UC San Diego, the SSDC is a collection of large numeric datafiles as well as a set of computer programs that provide easy access to those datafiles through a menu interface. Some data will be restricted to UCSD only.

Sociometrics - A commercial site where you can search for datasets, and purchase them. There is some support services offered as well.
