Poet Marie de France uses a mix of real human dilemmas and magical elements to recount the trials and tribulations of lovers. But what do these fantastical tales from the 12th C. say about romantic love, then and now? To answer the question, come meet a passionate scholar of women in the Middle Ages. Dressed in period costume to help us imagine the person behind the poems, she’ll tease out the writer’s subtle, complex views on love.
