After a nationwide search, Saint Mary’s is pleased to welcome Mark Nagel ’90 as its new Executive Director and Chief for Campus Safety and Transportation.

Nagel comes to Saint Mary’s from the Contra Costa County Sherriff’s Office where he has served since June of 2000. His success and accomplishments resulted in a stream of promotions, ultimately leading to his appointment as Chief of Police for the City of Orinda, a post he has held since February of 2014.

Nagel brings to Saint Mary’s an extensive tenure of experience in law enforcement, crime prevention, investigations, incident management and training. An alumnus of Saint Mary's, Nagel earned a Bachelors in Business Administration, and recently earned a Masters in Law Enforcement and Campus Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego.

“I’m eager and looking forward to coming back to the school that gave me so much,” said Nagel. “I will continue the great work that’s been done over the years in Campus Safety, and I will reach out and work with the school community to make any enhancements that are necessary or desired to improve communications and relationships.”

A devoted community servant, Nagel volunteers his time by serving on the Facilities and Safety Boards for Orinda Unified School District and Saint Perpetua School.

Nagel will join the College on Monday, August 26.
