Admissions Checklist

All Applicants must submit the following:

  • Undergraduate Transcript: Current SMC students may submit an unofficial transcript showing a clear path to graduation and a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4-point scale. For students with a GPA below 3.0, applicants must include a rationale explaining the circumstances surrounding their GPA.
  • Admissions Essay (12pt font size and double-spaced; please respond to each question separately [use headings to separate answers] in 2-3 succinct, cogent paragraphs)
    1. How do graduate studies in communication help you achieve your professional and personal goals? In other words, how does this program suit your specific interests and objectives?
    2. How does your professional, academic, and/or personal experiences demonstrate your preparedness for graduate work?
    3. What aspect(s) of communication are you most interested in studying?
  • Up-to-date résumé or currivulum vitae
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty members or supervisors who are familiar with the applicant’s academic achievements or professional experiences, respectively.
