Several media outlets covered Saint Mary's March 16, 2013 Great Bay Area Service Day for Schools. CILSA Director Marshall Welch connected with KGO radio for a early Saturday morning interview about the College's150th anniversary community service initiative to spruce up 22 schools in Concord, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Oakland, Richmond, San Francisco, San Jose, San Rafael and Union City.
Additionally, Bay City News service (BCN), a wire service for news organizations in the area reported on the event. BCN's report was carried on the CBS-5/KPIX-TV website and by local Patch outlets. Also reporting on the effort was KTVU-TV, Saint Mary's media partner on the massive community service project. The successful effort generated far more interest from volunteers than organizers expected.
Nearly 800 people participated in the service day, working on a variety of projects including painting, landscaping and organizing classroom libraries.
