Men's Crew Goes from Start Up to Thriving
April 7, 2011- Saint Mary's recently asked the Men's Crew team, "What allowed the program to move from a start up feel, to thriving this year?" The team had much to share.
"The word is getting out, the team is recognized around campus and we have committed rowers," explained the Gaels at Wednesday’s practice.
The current team credits the early mentorship of alumni Bob Gardner and SMC student Chelsea Serrano, an OCC coxswain who transferred to SMC, as a key elements of their early development.
"Bob and Chelsea helped the team establish workouts and understand the boathouse inventory in the Fall. Their knowledge allowed the team to capture the interest of prospective rowers and get them engaged in the sport right away," said team members.
With the kinks worked out in the fall, it is undeniable that this team is progressing steadily, as they head into the spring rowing season.
