“Hermano Santiago”—On the Road to Sainthood

Celebration of Blessed Brother James Miller, FSC, Martyr

Mission & Ministry Center — Brother David Caretti, FSC, EdD — Asst. Director for Liturgy (brotherdavid@stmarys-ca.edu)

On Thursday, February 13, 2020, the Mission and Ministry Center invites all members of our Saint Mary’s community to gather in honor of the first American De La Salle Brother beatified within the Catholic Church. This will be the inaugural celebration of Brother James’ liturgical feast day in the official calendar of the Church and among the international Lasallian Family.

Br. James Miller image   Brother James was killed on February 13, 1982 in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, while repairing a part of a wall at the school which the Brothers         had founded to serve the local indigenous youth. This school was one of several Lasallian ministries founded in direct service of the poor,               supporting them during a very dangerous period of time in Central America.

In honor of Blessed Brother James, two events will be held in our Main Chapel on the afternoon of February 13th:

     - 4:30pm—A prayer service sharing the story of Blessed James Miller

  •       - 5:15pm—Mass, Memorial of Blessed James Miller, FSC

Members of our Community are most welcome to join us for either or both of these events, estimated to be about 30mins each.
