MySMC Security Questions

March 26, 2018

Overview

IT Services announces an enhancement to our SMC authentication process.  In addition to providing increased account security, it will ease the process to reset your password. On Thursday, April 5th, users who log into MySMC will be required to set up three security questions before being allowed to access portal applications. We encourage those who do not regularly use MySMC to visit the portal to complete the process and take advantage of the new self-service features.

    Security Question Setup

On Thursday, April 5th, users who log into MySMC will be required to set up three security questions before being allowed to access portal applications.

    1. Sign into MySMC and click on an application.

    2. You will be prompted to create security questions in a new tab.

Setting security questions will make it easier for you to log back in if there is a problem with your account.  Setting security questions will only happen once.

Tips for your answers to the security questions:

    • Do not use the same answer for multiple questions
    • Do not use a password as an answer
    • Answer a minimum of 3 questions.
    • Answers are not case-sensitive
    • Special characters such as @#&*, cannot be used.
    • Do not share your questions and answers with anyone.
    • Blank answers will not be accepted

    3. Review your Profile.

The setup is complete! On your MyProfile page you can now change your password and security questions from anywhere.

    MyProfile Features (Sign-In Required)
The new MySMC is secured by OneLogin. OneLogin not only encrypts the authentication between MySMC and your applications but also means your SMC identity is now even more secure as well!  MyProfile allows you to access various self-service features like:

    • Password Changes
    • 2-Factor Authentication (Fall 2018)
    • Security Questions

    4. Back to Business

To return to your workflow, simply leave this page and proceed with the application(s) you normally work with.

Visit the MyProfile page anytime you want to update your security questions or password.

As a reminder, while our login system is now more secure you must remember to log out of any individual application, including the MySMC portal. To completely log out of all applications you can quit your browser application.
