Honors Keep Coming For McConnell
The honors keep coming for Saint Mary's senior guard Mickey McConnell.
Today the Mesa, Ariz. native was named to the all-District IX team by the United States Basketball Writers of America. District IX is comprised of Division I institutions within the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Hawai'i, Arizona and Alaska.
McConnell, the West Coast Conference Player of the Year, earned all-district honors yesterday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and is a first-team all-WCC honoree. He was also selected to the all-tournament team at the recent WCC Championships in Las Vegas and was named the league's player of the week four times during the season. McConnell is also a Final 10 selection for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation's top point guard, and is listed among the watch list for the James Naismith Trophy awarded to the country's top college player.
Saint Mary's concludes its regular-season Friday with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Weber State in McKeon Pavilion. The game will serve as the final home game for seniors Phil Benson and McConnell. Tickets are available by calling (925) 631-4394 or visiting the tickets link on SMCGaels.com.
On Sunday, fans are invited to join the players, coaches and staff to watch the NCAA Selection Show live in McKeon Pavilion. Doors open at 2:15 and the show begins at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
