For Transfer Students

Transfer students are eligible for the academic scholarships listed below.

Merit Scholarships

Each of the following awards are renewable for a maximum of three years of total, consecutive, uninterrupted full time study toward the completion of a student's first baccalaureate degree at Saint Mary's College, contingent upon on the student's achieving satisfactory academic progress. If you have additional questions regarding merit based scholarships, please contact the Office of Admissions.

To apply: Decisions are determined at the time of acceptance. No additional forms are required to be considered for this scholarship.

Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarship:  $14,000 annually

The Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • 30 or more transferable academic semester units (45 quarter units) completed at the time of acceptance
  • Cumulative academic GPA of 3.5 or higher

Transfer Gael Scholarship: $10,000 annually

The $10,000 Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • 23 or more transferable academic semester units (34 quarter units) completed at the time of acceptance
  • Cumulative academic GPA range of 3.26 - 3.49

Community College Partnership Award: $2,000 annually

Transfer students entering directly from Chabot College, Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College, Las Positas College, and Los Medanos College will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which will be added to any other scholarships received.

Cordero Scholarship: $6,000 annually

Entering international transfer students from Diablo Valley College with a minimum of 30 transferable units and a GPA ranging between 3.00 - 3.24 will be awarded a $6,000 scholarship. This scholarship cannot be combined with the Transfer Gael, or Transfer Honors at Entrance scholarship.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $5,000

Five eligible Phi Theta Kappa members will receive this $5,000 award, which will be added to any other SMC scholarships received. Eligibility is based upon the following criteria:

  • Acceptance to Saint Mary's College
  • Documentation of the Phi Theta Kappa membership on the Common Application and or college transcript
  • Demonstration of academic and leadership achievements

Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship: $5,000

Two eligible Alpha Gamma Sigma members will receive this $5,000 award, which will be added to any other SMC scholarships received. Eligibility is based upon the following criteria:

  • Acceptance to Saint Mary's College
  • Documentation of the Alpha Gamma Sigma membership on the Common Application and or college transcript
  • Demonstration of academic and leadership achievements

Need Based Aid 

Saint Mary's College General Scholarships:  $1,000-$28,000 annually

To apply: These need-based grants depend on student demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Other endowed scholarships have additional criteria, such as geographic qualifications or ethnic heritage. (e.g., the Joseph David Cardoza scholarship for students of Portuguese decent). Please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you have additional questions.

Veteran's Benefits

Saint Mary's is approved for the training of veterans and  their eligible dependents under the various public laws  which come under the direction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. We proudly participate in the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Programs. Please visit here for more information.

The Macken Collegiate Forensics Scholarships: $500-$5,000 annually

To apply: In order to compete for one of the Macken Collegiate Forensics Scholarships, please submit a self-nomination form.

Saint Mary's Macken Collegiate Forensics program offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to incoming freshmen, transfes, and currently enrolled SMC students.

Students are selected to receive scholarships based on their level of commitment to the Macken team, their competitive potential and contributions, and their academic standing.

Alumni Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is available to both new and continuing students who are the children or grandchildren of Saint Mary's College alumni.

To apply: The application requires <500 word statement answering the attached prompt below. Following intial review, select students will be invited to participate in on campus interviews during Scholarship Saturday on February 25, 2017.  Please submit the form below to Samantha Davison ’12, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at [email protected].  The deadline for submission will be Friday, January 29, 2017 by 4:30 p.m. P.S.T.
