Scholarships for International Students

International students applying as a fall semester freshman or for transfer admission from an attending an American school, either in the U.S. or abroad, are eligible to be considered merit scholarships. 

International First-Time Freshmen Merit Scholarships

Presidential Scholarships:  $25,000 annually ($100,000 total)

Honors at Entrance Scholarships:  $22,000 annually  ($88,000 total)

Gael Scholar’s Awards:  $19,000 annually ($76,000 total)

Benildus Awards: $17,000 annually ($68,000 total)

Cordero Awards: $6,000 annually ($24,000 total)

Leclerq Awards: $2,500 annually ($10,000 total)

To apply: Decisions are determined at the time of acceptance, no additional forms are required to be considered for these scholarships. These awards are determined at the time of freshman admission and applied each year, for up to four years of consecutive full-time study toward your first bachelor's degree. These amounts may be combined with other Saint Mary's College merit scholarships, and do not include possible additional need based aid for which students might qualify. Lasallian and or Lasallian Affiliated School Scholarships

Lasallian Leadership Awards: $13,000 annually ($52,000 total)

These awards are available to admitted students graduating from De La Salle Christian Brothers high schools who have 3.5 > cumulative weighted academic grade point averages. Students from other historically Lasallian affiliated schools (Carondelet High School in Concord, CA; San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, CA; Garces Memorial in Fresno, CA) may also qualify. Recipients can combine these awards with one of the listed merit scholarships determined at the time of acceptance.

To apply: Decisions are determined at the time of acceptance, no additional forms are required to be considered for these scholarships.

A note about merit based scholarships:

The total of merit scholarships cannot exceed Saint Mary's College tuition. Merit awards are applied towards any demonstrated need based aid eligibility. Students who receive the combination of the Presidential and Lasallian Leadership scholarships may compete for any other merit awards; the maximum number of merit awards a student may receive is three. If the combination of merit scholarships and Cal Grant or the Tuition Exchange award exceed tuition, the merit scholarship will be reduced.

 

International Transfer Merit Scholarships

Each of the following awards are renewable for a maximum of three years of total, consecutive, uninterrupted full time study toward the completion of a student's first baccalaureate degree at Saint Mary's College, contingent upon on the student's achieving satisfactory academic progress. To apply: Decisions are determined at the time of acceptance. No additional forms are required to be considered for this scholarship.

Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarship:  $14,000 annually

The Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • 30 or more transferable academic semester units (45 quarter units) completed at the time of acceptance
  • Cumulative academic GPA of 3.5 or higher

Transfer Gael Scholarship: $10,000 annually

The $10,000 Transfer Honors at Entrance Scholarship is automatically awarded to transfer students who meet all the following criteria:

  • 23 or more transferable academic semester units (34 quarter units) completed at the time of acceptance
  • Cumulative academic GPA range of 3.26 - 3.49

Community College Partnership Award: $2,000 annually

Transfer students entering directly from Chabot College, Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College, Las Positas College, and Los Medanos College will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which will be added to any other scholarships received.

Cordero Scholarship: $6,000 annually

Entering international transfer students from Diablo Valley College with a minimum of 30 transferable units and a GPA ranging between 3.00 - 3.24 will be awarded a $6,000 scholarship. This scholarship cannot be combined with the Transfer Gael, or Transfer Honors at Entrance scholarship.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: $5,000

Five eligible Phi Theta Kappa members will receive this $5,000 award, which will be added to any other SMC scholarships received. Eligibility is based upon the following criteria:

  • Acceptance to Saint Mary's College
  • Documentation of the Phi Theta Kappa membership on the Common Application and or college transcript
  • Demonstration of academic and leadership achievements

Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship: $5,000

Two eligible Alpha Gamma Sigma members will receive this $5,000 award, which will be added to any other SMC scholarships received. Eligibility is based upon the following criteria:

  • Acceptance to Saint Mary's College
  • Documentation of the Alpha Gamma Sigma membership on the Common Application and or college transcript
  • Demonstration of academic and leadership achievements
