Marco Aponte-Moreno


Professional Overview: 

Dr. Aponte-Moreno is an Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA). He teaches a wide variety of graduate and undegraduate courses in leadership, global business, management and strategy. His research focuses on leadership development. He looks at how the arts in general, and theater in particular, can be used to develop leadership skills. He is also interested in global leadership and writes about immigration as a leadership crucible.

Since joining Saint Mary's in 2016, Dr. Aponte-Moreno has serviced the College in various ways. He has been Director of the Professional MBA program as well as the School's representative at both the Strategy Steering Committee and the Academic Administrators' Evaluation Committee. He currently works as SEBA's representative in the Core Curriculum Working Group, and in the Academic Contingency Planning Working Group related to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is a member of SEBA's Graduate Programs Committee and is scheduled to become Chair of the Management and Entrepreneurship Department in 2021. 

He is originally from Venezuela and has written extensively about his country's economic and political crisis. His doctoral dissertation analyzed the leadership discourse of former Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez over a period of nine years.

Before joining Saint Mary's, Dr Aponte-Moreno was the Program Director of the Master's in Management at University College London as well as a Senior Teaching Fellow in Business. He has also held full-time positions as a Business Lecturer at the University of Surrey and Aston University in the U.K.  

Prior to joining academia, Dr. Aponte-Moreno worked in corporate finance for various international financial institutions including Japan's Mizuho Corporate Bank, France's Crédit Lyonnais, and the British commodities trading company ED&F Mann. He has lived and worked in various countries including France, the UK, the US and Venezuela. He is fluent in English, Spanish and French, and has been doing theater as a hobby for the past 20 years.
