General FAQs for Commencement 2020

The traditional undergraduate ceremony is on Saturday, May 23, 2020
The Graduate and Professional Studies ceremony is on Sunday, May 24, 2020

Are there tickets for the ceremony?

No. Seating is first-come, first-serve. There no tickets for either ceremony. 

How early can I arrive?

The stadium will open at 8:00 AM both days. Early access will not be granted.

What time does Commencement start?

Both ceremoniesbegin at 9:00 AM. The processional begins at 9:00 AM and the ceremony is scheduled to start at 9:30 AM.

The ceremony lasts approximately 3 hours.

What time should I arrive at Saint Mary’s?

We recommend that you arrive 1 hour prior to the ceremony on both dates.

Why should I arrive so early?

Traffic will be extremely heavy both of those mornings, which may impact your arrival time. Parking will also become limited. The later you arrive, the more congested parking and traffic will be as you near SMC and Moraga.

Will class rings be for sale?

Yes! Balfour will be on campus at the bookstore during several dates in the Fall and Spring semesters.
They will also attend the Undergraduate and Graduate Grad Fairs.
More information will be available in Fall 2019.

How can I order graduation announcements? During Grad Fairwe will have CB Graduation Announcements who will be taking orders and will be showcasing the different types of announcements. If you would like to order online, we also have that option available.

When are the Grad Fairs?

The undergraduate Grad Fair is on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020.

The graduate and professional studies Grad Fair is on Thursday, March 19th, 2020.

Can I bring my dog to the stadium?

We only welcome service dogs to the stadium during both undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies.

How do I get to Saint Mary’s?

Where do I park for Commencement?

What if it rains? Commencement is held outside rain or shine. Please come prepared for any kind of weather (warm coats, rain coats, umbrellas, sunscreen, hats, blankets, etc.). The SMC stadium offers little shade.

Can I park an RV on campus? Parking is very limited on Commencement Weekend. For this reason, we do not allow RV parking on campus.

Where I can stay that is near Saint Mary’s?

My family has a drone. Can I bring it the Commencement ceremonies to take pictures?

Drones will not be allowed in the Stadium or Turf Field during Commencement Weekend.

I’d like to attend a cultural graduation. How can I find out more information?

I’ve heard about “the plots”. What are they?

When will I get my diploma?

Diplomas are not distributed at the Commencement ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement inside your official diploma cover. 

During the month of June your diploma will be sent to you, along with an official sealed copy of your transcript.  If you still have requirements to complete, the Registrar's Office will send you an e-mail in July with your remaining requirements.
