There were several marquee games in DI this week that solidified the rankings. Six of the top 10 teams played this week, including two top 10 matchups.

St. Mary’s bested BYU for the second time this year. This time the Gaels went into Provo and beat the Cougars. It is only the second time in history that has been done. (Cal beat BYU in the 2016 Penn Mutual Varsity Cup final)  The teams stayed ranked at one and four respectively.

After Glendale Academy beat BYU earlier this year, we figured that maybe Saint Mary's might also be on the losing end. Nope, not even a little bit. Sure it was close for a while, but ultimately Gael Force (we just coined that, how do you like it?) blew through for a 58-12 win. A surprise.

(1/16/18): TAIR Awards -Men's College Team of the Year--St. Mary's

The Gaels fanbase has come through once again as they have delivered the TIAR Award for Men's College Team of the Year to St. Mary's. It's also hard to argue that the Gaels didn't deserve it. On their way to the DI championship they beat Cal, BYU, and Life, all the other teams nominated for the award. The Gaels have put together a real special team over the last few years and this year they look set to repeat it again.

#1 Saint Mary’s started their conference schedule with a game against Santa Clara. The Gaels were coming off an impressive hit out against #18 Central Washington University last weekend where they ran in 13 tries against the Wildcats. This weekend it was a fairly similar result for the men from Moraga who came away with an emphatic 84-0 win over their conference foes. They did what they had to do to protect their ranking.
