Saint Mary’s Welcomes Shobi Sivadasan as Vice President for Enrollment Management

Shobi SivadasanDear Saint Mary’s Community,

I am pleased to share that Shobi Sivadasan, an accomplished academic leader who has demonstrated success and created measurable change at multiple institutions over the past several years, will join our community as Vice President for Enrollment Management beginning on September 1.

Throughout the process of identifying and selecting a new voice to lead our enrollment efforts, Shobi’s experience and background stood out as an ideal fit for Saint Mary’s. Since 2019, she has served as Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Under her direction, first-year applications rose by 20.6 percent and first-year student enrollment also went up 7.6 percent in fall 2021. Last fall’s incoming class includes the school’s highest percentage of incoming female and underrepresented minority students, and under Shobi’s leadership the school has also received a record number of Master’s and PhD applications.

Prior to arriving in Missouri, Shobi served as Senior Associate Vice President of Graduate and International Admissions at the University of New Haven. While there, changes she implemented resulted in a 10.3 percent increase in graduate enrollment and a 28 percent increase in MBA applications.

Shobi has also served as Dean of Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Management at Stevens Institute of Technology where the university saw a 43 percent increase in full-time graduate enrollments during her tenure. She is a graduate of the University of Calicut in Kerala, India where she earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, and she received a Master of Engineering degree in Engineering Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.

I would like to also take this opportunity to thank the committee that directed our search efforts, led by former Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Evette Castillo Clark. Thank you as well to Gina Armstrong-Smith, Amaury Avalos, Patrick Carew, Francisco Chavez, Jennifer Herzog, Marshall Perry, Jim Pesavento, Ryan Reggiani, Aeleah Soine, and Roy Wensley for their work as part of the committee.

Shobi will take over the College’s enrollment efforts from Michael Beseda, who will retire in October. I asked Michael to return to Saint Mary’s last year to help build a foundation for the future, and I am grateful for the work he has done, not only when it comes to enrollment but also the College’s marketing and communications efforts.

As colleges and universities across the country continue to adjust to an academic landscape that has been reshaped by the COVID-19 pandemic, I am excited about what lies ahead. Please join me in welcoming Shobi to campus, and I look forward to seeing our campus community all together again this fall.

Best regards,

Richard Plumb, PhD
