4/18/10- On this rare occasion, the Saint Mary’s Gaels hosted the USF Dons for a women’s club soccer game. Saint Mary’s, led by coach and math professor Chris Jones, crushes the Dons with a final score of 4-1. The game started at noon with both teams playing strong defense and the ball moving. For the first ten minutes on the match there were very few shots on goal but a couple fast breaks. Monica Houston ’13 of the Gaels started out as striker and played a key role in these runs. However, twelve minutes in USF scored the first goal against keeper Caitlin Clem ’13. Several of the Gaels played extensive defense throughout the game keeping the shots on goal few.
The first Saint Mary’s goal was scored by Kellee Murayama ’12 at twenty-five minutes in making the score 1-1. The score remained tied into the second half but there were a couple very close shots by the Gaels.
