Men's Lacrosse Looks to Rebound Against Co-conference Leader Nevada

T.S. '11

3/15/11-  After Saturday’s hard fought loss to #13 ranked Cal State Fullerton, the #20 ranked Gaels will look to rebound against familiar foe Nevada. The Gaels and the Wolf Pack have faced off each of the last 5 years with St. Mary’s taking all five games. Most recently the Gaels defeated Nevada on their home field 13-5, with Christian Skuce scoring 2 goals and adding 4 assists, while graduated teammate Clayton Sheridan putting away 5 goals for the Gaels.

The Gaels enter the contest with a 6-3 record, with all loses coming against ranked opponents (#13 Cal State Fullerton, #15 SCAD, and #14 Kennesaw State), while Nevada enters with an overall record of 2-2. Both teams hold a 2-0 record in the WCLL DII conference. St. Mary’s will likely depend on its high power offense that has generated 107 goals so far this year (Ave. 11.8 GPG), along with its stingy defense only giving up 59 goals (6.5 GPG). Leading the way for the Gaels this year is Christian Skuce with 13 assists and 22 goals, while teammates Jim Castilone (13 A and 18 G), and Matthew Jabe (5 A and 17G) look to contribute as well.

Like the Gaels, Nevada has scheduled a tough non-conference schedule with both of their losses coming to Division I schools, U.C. Davis (5-1, 2-0) and Stanford (5-1, 1-1).  This game will likely vault the winner into at least a tie of the WCLL championship as only 3 conference games remain. The game is set to take place Saturday, March 19, in Reno, Nevada.
