NPR features a review of "Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire,” the fourth book by Saint Mary's English Professor Brenda Hillman in her poetry series focusing on the four elements. Hillman's previous books, Cascadia, Pieces of Air in the Epic and Practical Water, addressed earth, air, and water. A 1993 Pulitzer Prize finalist, Hillman, who is the Olivia C. Filippi Professor of Poetry at SMC and the director of the College's MFA Program in Creative Writing, is the recipient of many national honors for her poetry, including the Los Angeles Times Book Award in 2009 and an Academy of American Poets Fellowship in 2012. Her latest book "Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire,” was named to the longlist of literary works in consideration for a 2013 National Book Award. Listen to the NPR review.
