PERFORMING OPPORTUNITIES

The Performing Arts Department welcomes students from across the College into its performing ensembles, and provides multiple performance opportunities each academic year.

DANCE

Dance auditions are not required for the Performing Arts major or minor in Dance. Students may audition for performance ensembles, including the Saint Mary's College Dance Company, early in the new academic year.

The Saint Mary's College Dance Company will hold auditions for the 2019-20 school year on September 3rd, 2019 11:30 am - 1:05 pm (modern dance ) in The JARC recreation center and September 4th, 2019 11:45-12:50 (ballet) in the Syufy Dance Studio (Room 130). Dancers must attend both auditions and then, if selected, must enroll in Perfa 75-01 and Perfa 75-02. Questions? Contact Professor Dana Lawton (lawton@stmarys-ca.edu)

MUSIC

The Saint Mary’s Chamber Musicians, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and our award-winning choral groups, the Chamber Singers and Glee Club, are organized at the start of each semester. Questions? Contact Dr. Julie Ford at jaf17@stmarys-ca.edu.

THEATRE

No audition is required to major or minor in Theatre at Saint Mary’s College. Auditions are required for most productions.

The Saint Mary’s Theatre Program announces auditions for our Spring 20 mainstage production: School for Lies, by David Ives. Auditions are open to all interested students.

  • Signup to audition on or after January 7th, at the LeFevre Theatre box office

  • General auditions for School for Lies: Saturday, January 18 (1-4 pm) and Sunday, January 19 (1-4 pm).

  • Audition Guidelines: For the first round of auditions, students are asked to perform a memorized comic monologue of their choice, about 2 minutes long, and a short speech from The School for Lies. [These short speeches will be available at the LeFevre box office window by January 7th. No need to memorize the School for Lies speech; it can be delivered “on book”. Students who can't find a comic monologue from another play are welcome to perform a speech from The School for Lies instead.]

  • For more information on the audition or rehearsal process, contact the director, Professor Daniel Larlham, at dl15@stmarys-ca.edu.

The Saint Mary’s Theatre Program practices culturally inclusive casting, and we welcome first-years, transfers and beginners. All roles are open. Questions? Contact Theatre Program Director Rebecca Engle (rengle@stmarys-ca.edu)
