Nearly 300 people sporting tuxedos and elegant gowns enjoyed fine food, wine and one another’s company at the 37th President’s Club Dinner Dance at the Blackhawk Auto Museum on Oct. 13, 2007.

The guests, including Saint Mary’s most generous benefactors, trustees, regents and the President’s cabinet, cleared their palates between courses with cones of sherbet, danced on a marble floor to an eight-piece band and mingled among sparkling Bugattis, Duesenbergs and Alpha Romeos.

The annual event allows Brother President Ronald Gallagher to express his appreciation for the generosity of President’s Club members, and for club members to celebrate their support of current and future Saint Mary’s students.

A highlight was the first President’s Live Auction, led by Gaels men’s basketball announcer and honorary alumnus Dick Callahan ’98. The auction not only generated great entertainment, it raised more than $380,000 for the College. Among the items auctioned were a trip for two to Ireland with Brother Ronald, two dinners for eight with Brother Mel and Brother Ronald and a “Day on the Bay” with Brother Ronald. Those opportunities alone brought in approximately $76,000 for the College.

The auction inspired two generous President’s Club members to offer matching gifts of $50,000 each, helping to make the event a resounding success.

The next President’s Club Dinner Dance, which is open to all club members, is scheduled for Oct. 18, 2008 and will celebrate Saint Mary’s 80 years in Moraga. For information on how to join the club, contact Daniel Lewis, director of the Annual Fund, in the Development Department at (925) 631-4616 or
