Dear Colleagues,

Today the National Labor Relations Board counted ballots cast by Saint Mary’s College eligible contingent faculty. These faculty voted to be represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) by a 204-64 margin. There were 427 eligible voters in the election.

I am thankful to our contingent faculty for their participation in the election and for their respectful dialogue throughout the discernment process.

As a result of the election, the College will honor this decision by bargaining in good faith with representatives from our contingent faculty and the SEIU about their terms of employment. Our intent is to have a mutually agreed upon contract for the adjunct faculty as soon as possible.

I will continue to keep the community apprised of the negotiations through direct communication from me and periodic updates in the weekly Bulletin.
