Presidential Search Update

Dear Saint Mary’s Community,

We write to provide an update on the Presidential Search Process.

The Presidential Search Advisory Committee met on Wednesday, July 1, to review the first draft of the Presidential Search Profile (the Profile). As you know, the Profile will introduce potential candidates to Saint Mary’s College (the College). More specifically, it articulates the strategic priorities for our next President and sets forth the leadership qualifications needed to qualify as a presidential candidate.

The Profile is being prepared by the College’s Marketing and Communications team under the leadership of Linda Lenhoff and our AGB Search consultants. Data was compiled from the Survey Monkey reports recently completed by the College community and the many Listening Sessions our consultants attended with all of you over the last two months. Although the Listening Sessions were conducted via Zoom, we have been impressed with the active participation of the community and the efforts of our consultants to get to know the Saint Mary’s community.

The Search Profile was thoroughly reviewed and edited by the Search Committee. Marketing and Communications is now completing a final draft with engaging photos of the campus community. A special thanks to Linda Lenhoff for bringing the campus to life in the Profile.

Once the Profile is finalized in the next few weeks, the Presidential Search will be nationally launched. In other words, the Profile will be sent to potential candidates and nominators of potential candidates across the country. We also will begin to advertise the opportunity in a variety of local and national publications (i.e., Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Women in Higher Education, Journal of Blacks in Higher Ed, Business Journals, etc.) and reach out to various associations that will announce the search to their member institutions (i.e., Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, Christian Brothers Conference/Lasallian Region of North America, etc.) Our consultants will also reach out to educational leaders across the country.

The Profile also will be posted on the College website and we urge all of you to review it. Please reflect on the leadership priorities and attributes described in the document and consider people you know who might be qualified to serve effectively as our next President or individuals who might know potential candidates. Once the search launches in mid-July, the name(s) and contact information for nominators and potential candidates may be sent to and our consultants will contact the people you suggest directly. The success of our search depends on building a strong and diverse pool of interested and qualified candidates. Again, we welcome your suggestions and nominations.

In mid-October, the Search Committee will begin to narrow the candidate pool, moving toward a time in November when preliminary interviews will be held at a Bay Area hotel. Campus interviews, to which you will all be invited, are anticipated to occur in mid-December.

We are grateful that the Presidential Search is off to an excellent start and will update you again after the September Search Committee meeting. Thank you all for your continued interest and support.
