Private Colleges are Seeing Enrollments Soar

Saint Mary's College was mentioned in a San Francisco Business Times story about how soaring tuition costs and limited enrollment at state universities is boosting admissions at private colleges.

The article notes that applications rose 6 percent while the freshman class swelled 9 percent this year at Saint Mary's College. As the state's budget woes continue, those numbers are likely to increase, said Michael Beseda, vice provost for enrollment. "Almost any…observer's going to say this is going to be a pretty ugly budget year, and California higher education has got to be a place that's going to suffer some of that," he said.
