Provost Transition

Dear Saint Mary’s Community,

I would like to inform you that Dr. Margaret Kasimatis is transitioning from the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs to the faculty effective in January 2022 and is taking a very well-deserved sabbatical this fall.

Please join me in thanking Margaret for her extraordinary leadership, especially this past year as she helped lead the College as Interim Executive Vice President through the global pandemic. Margaret has been instrumental working with the senior leadership team, deans, faculty, and staff these past 16 months to ensure the safety and health of our community even as we maintained our commitment to provide a transformative education for students. Margaret has been a steadfast leader, committed to advancing Saint Mary’s in its trifold Lasallian, Catholic, and liberal arts traditions, and helping to chart the course for a sustainable and rich future.

In the coming weeks we will develop a process to conduct a national search for Margaret's replacement. It is critical the search be open with full participation from the community, especially faculty. In the meantime, I am beginning to consult with various stakeholders on who to appoint as an interim provost. Saint Mary’s is a uniquely special institution and I am fully committed to working with all community stakeholders to safeguard our mission and live our values, on behalf of our students and each other.

I look forward to welcoming you back to campus in August.
