Psi Chi Honor Society

Psi Chi is an international honor society whose purpose shall be to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Mission Statement

The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.

SMC Psi Chi Chapter

The Saint Mary's Chapter of Psi Chi, was formed to connect classroom learning with real world application. Through community engagement, service, and research; we attempt to foster an environment that promotes the excitement of the field of psychology.

Requirements 

  • Declared as either a psychology major or minor
  • Completed a minimum of four psychology courses at SMC
  • 3.0 overall GPA, and a 3.0 major GPA
  • $55 one-time fee for membership

Upcoming 2019-2020 Events 

Psi Chi participants must earn a total of seven points throughout the 2019-2020 academic school year to recieve cords and pins for graduation. 

 

Psych Club Trail Mixer Night 

Tuesday, October 15th, 7:30pm, Soda Center- Orinda Room

Come make some Halloween trail mix with fellow psych club members! Earn one point for attending this event. 

Blood Cancer Swab Drive 

Wednesday, November 6th, 1-4:00 pm, Library Quad 

  • Swab your cheeks and see if you are a possible match to donate bone marrow for blood cancer at Love Your Melon's Swab Drive. 
  • Earn one point for participating. 

Career Night 

Thursday, November 7th, 6-9pm, Soda Center 

Earn one point for coming to this event and learning about obtainable careers with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

 

QPR Training 

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training. Earn two points for attending.

Friday November 15th 1-3pm, Friday January 24th, 10am-12pm, Wednesday Februrary 26th 12-2pm.

Autism Awareness Month

April 1st- April 30th, Psych Lounge

  • Autism Awareness Month is in April. Starting April 1st, earn 1 point by writing a myth about Autism Spectrum Disorder and debunking it with a fact, citing your source. 
  • Then, earn 1 point for participating in our social media quiz about Autism Spectrum Disorder, which will occur mid April.
  • Between April 1-5, we are offering 1 point to Psi Chi members who post a picture of themselves wearing blue and sharing about 1 resource that aims to help individuals impacted by Autism. Tag SMC Psi Chi on instagram or Facebook to get credit for this point opportunity.

 

Research Lunch 

Wednesday, March 11th, 1-2:30pm, Galileo 201

Earn one point for attending, and +1 point for being a panelist. 

Stem Center Tutor 

Each two points for being a Stem Center Tutor or a tutor on campus this fall. 

 

Outside Service Option
