A Resource for Students in Difficult Times

These are difficult times for everyone, especially our students. We are committed to supporting our students and continuing to meet them where they are—wherever that might be.

We are grateful that the incredible Gael family—our alumni, parents, friends, staff, and faculty—has joined together to help support students facing financial strain as a result of the COVID-19 situation.

If you are currently enrolled in an academic degree program at Saint Mary’s College, you are eligible to apply for emergency assistance. Details regarding this funding and a link to apply are below.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for funding, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled as a degree-seeking full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student at Saint Mary’s College;
  • Experiencing unexpected financial hardship resulting from the coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak

Examples of student needs:

  • Emergency medical expenses
  • Technology/equipment needed to ensure continuity of online learning
  • Travel expenses
  • Storage and relocation expenses
  • Housing and living expenses
  • Childcare expenses
  • Health insurance
  • Tuition and fees related to the fulfillment of payment plans for the spring 2020 semester
  • Other financial needs arising from individual and/or special circumstances to be determined on a case-by-case basis

Additional Items to Note

  • Funds awarded do not need to be repaid; however, they may be subject to federal taxes.
  • The nature of the request will dictate how funds will be disbursed to the student.
  • Emergency funding is reserved for students who have exhausted other available options. 
  • The spirit of this funding is primarily to support emergency circumstances and priority is given to students with the greatest financial need.
  • Due to the fact that limited funding is available, requests made for expenses beyond the spring 2020 semester will not be considered at this time.

Contribute to the President's Emergency Fund

In the wake of the global pandemic and economic uncertainty, we recognize that many members of our Saint Mary's community may be negatively impacted. At Saint Mary’s, we unite as one Gael community at times like this, which is why the President's Emergency Fund was created. 

Contributions to the fund will directly impact our students who as a byproduct of protective measures against the coronavirus, are challenged financially, have limited access to resources to support distance learning, or are facing other hardships.  Please join us and help more Gaels in need by making a gift to the President's Emergency Fund today.
