Ring Around my Homeland
In the Dominican Republic I talked
with hands of the weather.
At the ocean all of the palm
trees surrounded me.
By my house the ocean was
usually as quiet as a floor.
When I got home the world
of my family was around me.
They were celebrating with
a pot of chicken on the stove.
The wind blew outside frightening
me but inside we were just eating,
Just talking quietly at the table
in my home.
