It’s rewarding to know that we are placed in such high esteem for excellence in higher education. Our faculty are outstanding academicians, and their unwavering commitment to ensuring our students become the very best versions of themselves, personally, academically, spiritually, and professionally, is a hallmark of our mission.”

“Saint Mary's is an extraordinary institution, and we are delighted that more people will see these impressive rankings and learn about the remarkable education that takes place on our campus,” Donahue said.

Education Professor Joan Peterson, who is celebrating her 30th year at Saint Mary’s and is the recipient of the College’s 2018-19 Professor of the Year Award, said SMC’s excellent rankings speak especially to the expertise and commitment of a faculty and staff unflaggingly attentive to students. “It would be difficult to find another college where concern for students meshes so well with academic standards of excellence.”

And of course, students are at the heart of Saint Mary’s. “I find these rankings impressive, and I hope that future employers are aware and recognize Saint Mary’s students for their outstanding achievements,” said Morganne Whaley ’19. “Back-to-back reviews reinforce that I’m receiving a transformative education. I’m proud to be able to represent an institution of such quality,” she added.

Saint Mary’s College has also ranked among Money’s top 20 Most Transformative Colleges in the nation. Money’s Specialty Rankings, a section in its Best Colleges in America 2018–19 edition, focuses not only on an elite college’s ability to produce high graduation rates or alumni success, but on its ability to help students “do far better than would be expected from their academic and economic backgrounds.” Money refers to this ability as a college’s value-added rate. Saint Mary’s value-added rate earned it a number 17 on Money’s list of Most Transformative Colleges.

In addition to earning high marks in Money’s specialty rankings, Saint Mary’s is listed near the top third of the 727 colleges and universities featured in Money’s 2018-19 Best Colleges Rankings guide. All these rankings reflect SMC’s focus on excellent teaching across the entire campus.
