Saint Mary’s Liberal Arts Education Ranked in Nation’s Top 25

Best Colleges Ranking GradReportsSaint Mary’s College of California has received another rankings accolade. GradReports rates SMC at number 15 in its list of the Top 25 Colleges With Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts Programs for 2020. The list showcases institutions of higher education that offer a Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts degree, in order of highest median salary for graduates with a liberal arts major one year after college. The college review site measures median early-career salary data of over 5 million graduates from the U.S. Department of Education resource College Scorecard.

Saint Mary’s School of Liberal Arts Dean Sheila Hassell Hughes said the recognition by GradReports is an affirmation of the quality of the School of Liberal Arts. “This latest accolade for the College echoes what many on the campus already know. Our liberal arts graduates are excelling,” said Hughes. “We hear from so many of our SOLA alumni who return to the campus that their academic background has prepared them well to address challenging issues in the changing spheres of technology, business, education, the arts, politics, and social services.”

The SOLA dean added that the College continues to prepare students for success through opportunities such as the Liberal Arts Bridge, SMC’s comprehensive four-year program of professional exploration and development support for liberal arts majors. “As a result of our stellar faculty, student-centered teaching, and career enrichment programs, we are preparing our SOLA students to become citizen-leaders for the 21st century, serving in government and classrooms; creating films, art, and literature; and making a difference in our communities. That is the power of the liberal arts.”

GradReports notes that all salary numbers in its liberal arts program rankings are representative of graduates from the subject area and degree level specified. GradReports’ rankings methodology includes the median total debt from College Scorecard, which represents the debt accumulated by student borrowers of federal loans who completed a degree in the indicated field of study. Both salary and total debt data are based on school-reported information about students’ program of completion.
