Saint Mary’s Accounting Students Stand Out

When the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) East Bay chapter recently hosted its annual scholarship dinner in Oakland, four of the nine scholarships awarded to candidates from local universities went to accounting majors at Saint Mary's College.

Saint Mary's students Neil Johnston, Erik Buckalew, Jesus Gomez and Macy Masajilo received merit-based scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $6,000. Each student plans to pursue a career in the accounting field.

Vicki Davis, employer relations manager of Saint Mary’s College’s Career Center, says, "I consistently receive feedback from accounting firm representatives that Saint Mary’s accounting students are extremely polished and well-prepared for the workplace upon graduation, and they equate this differentiation to the rigorous curriculum in our accounting program."

The School of Economics and Business Administration is building upon the success and reputation of its undergraduate accounting program and continuing to enhance its curriculum by offering a new Master of Science in Accounting starting this July.
