Saint Mary's College is hiring an Education Librarian

by Sarah Vital | December 13, 2021

What would I be doing?

You’ll be involved with all aspects of academic librarianship: instruction, reference, collection development, outreach, and scholarly communication. You’ll teach one-shots and be embedded in graduate classes in teacher education, educational leadership, and counseling, as well as work with undergraduate classes in leadership and select composition classes. You’ll also staff a couple reference shifts each week (including a weekly 5-7 p.m. shift and a Saturday or two each semester), select books and other materials to support your disciplines, and contribute to our efforts to promote open-access publishing and open educational resources. It’s a position with a lot of autonomy, but also a lot of peer support.

Where would I be working?

Saint Mary’s is located in the beautiful East Bay hills of the San Francisco Bay Area, and is a 20-minute drive (or 40-minute BART and bus ride) from Oakland, and 45-minute drive (or 1-hour BART and bus ride) from SF. Saint Mary’s is a private, Catholic, Lasallian college, rooted in the liberal arts tradition, that has been designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution. After a COVID closure, our library is back open (masks are required, as are COVID vaccinations or weekly tests for all students and employees).

Why should I want to work there?

We’ve got a tight-knit library staff of 20 that works collaboratively and transparently toward supporting students, inspiring discovery, and providing access to knowledge. We welcome you to pursue your passions, contribute ideas to improve our services, and get involved in campus life.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life/disability insurance, short-term disability, paid family leave, and flexible spending accounts. You’ll start out with 15 vacation days per year (plus 15 holidays) and 12 days of sick leave per year.

What are the position details?

Librarians at Saint Mary’s are staff. You will be hired at the assistant or associate librarian level depending on your experience. Our promotion standards and staff salary scales are available on our website. This position reports to the Head of Teaching and Research Services.
