Saint Mary's College Observes Historic Inauguration of Barack Obama

What: Presidential Inaugural Watch Party at Saint Mary's College. Join the Saint Mary's College community as students, faculty and staff gather to witness the historic inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America on Jan. 20, 2009.

Where: The Soda Center, Saint Mary's College of California, 1928 St. Mary's Rd., Moraga. Free and open to the community

When: 7:30 a.m. Soda Center opens for breakfast (There will be free buttons to the first 250 people that attend)

8 a.m. Opening Prayer by Brother President Ronald Gallagher

9 a.m. Live television swearing-in of President Barack Obama

9:30 a.m. Tim Farley, SMC's Director of Community & Government Relations is attending the Inauguration and will speak to Soda Center attendees on his cell phone from Washington, D.C. Farley is available to speak the press. Additionally, Charles Smith, an SMC senior also attending the inauguration, is available to speak to the press by cell phone.

9:40-10a.m. Students/staff/faculty may continue to watch the live television feed of the Inaugural parade or stay to chat in the Soda Center

Background: The Jan. 20, 2009, Inauguration Watch Party is the completion an extraordinary year of political activism and interest by students at Saint Mary's College. This election season elicited unprecedented interest by Saint Mary's students in the national and local elections. Both campus Republicans and Democrats coordinated voter registration efforts and worked to raise the awareness of the candidates and issues.
