Saint Mary's College Student Wins Scholarship for the Blind
Moraga, Calif. - Saint Mary's College sophomore Skylar Covich has won a scholarship from the National Federation of the Blind of California.
Covich, a politics major, was one of three undergraduates and two graduate students awarded a higher education scholarship at the organization's annual convention on Oct. 13-15 in Irvine. The scholarship competition was based on academic achievement, school activities, recommendations and involvement with organizations for the blind. "Skylar is definitely a bright young man and I think he's going to go a long way in whatever he chooses to do," said Robert Stigile, president of the National Federation of the Blind of California.
Before coming to Saint Mary's College, Covich attended Shasta High School in Redding where he was a top academic achiever and participated in blind skiing competitions.
