Saint Mary's College to Honor Lasallian Educator Brother Carlos Gabriel Gómez-Restrepo

Brother Carlos Gabriel Gómez-Restrepo, FSCMoraga, CA (April 19, 2010) - Brother Carlos Gabriel Gómez-Restrepo, FSC, President of the Universidad de La Salle in Bogotá, Colombia will receive an honorary doctoral degree as the guest of honor at Saint Mary's College of California's annual De La Salle Week Convocation in the College Chapel.

The Convocation, which will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 12:45 p.m., is the centerpiece of De La Salle Week, a weeklong event for Saint Mary's students, Christian Brothers, faculty, and staff to increase awareness and celebrate the life of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers, and our Lasallian heritage and mission.

Gómez-Restrepo is a leading theorist on the relationship of higher education to politics. His innovative management style as executive vice president of Universidad de La Salle led to his appointment as the institution's president. Under his administrative leadership Universidad de La Salle received the certification of High Quality from the Ministry of National Education in August 2008.

Gómez-Restrepo has also served as executive secretary of the Lasallian Latin American Region, general Coordinator of the 44th General chapter and Vice President of the International Association of Lasallian Universities.

Gómez-Restrepo earned his bachelor's degree in education from the Universidad de La Salle, master of political science degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and a doctorate in educational leadership at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
