2/6/11- No. 23 Saint Mary’s controlled face-offs and got goals from five players en route to a 10-7 win against Emory in an MCLA Division II game on Sunday. The game marked the end of a four-game Southern road trip for the Gaels.

Middie Matt Jaber was 12-of-18 in face-offs, and LSM Laki Sotiropulos picked up 13 ground balls.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for St. Mary’s (2-2), which lost to No. 11 Kennesaw State on Saturday and No. 13 Savannah College of Art & Design on Thursday.

“The Gaels regrouped well today versus Emory,” said head coach Colin Knightly. “I stressed to the team this morning that we must win the first quarter. We did and that set the tone for the rest of the game.”

Jim Castilone and Jaber (one assist) each had three goals, Dan Podesta (one assist) scored two and Christian Skuce (one assist) and Joe Arnold had one goal each. Logan Magness and Tom Gourhan each had an assist.

“Going on the road this early in the season gives us the chance to learn about ourselves on the field,” said Knightly. “We made mistakes earlier in the week; and learned from them.”
