SEBA Launches "Career Gateway" Professional Development Program

After two years in the works and valuable input from the School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA) Dean’s Advisory Board members, Undergraduate Student Advisory Board members, faculty, alumni, employers and recruiters, SEBA is delighted to formally launch the new “Career Gateway” professional development program in collaboration with the Saint Mary's Career Center.

Designed for undergraduate SEBA students, the Career Gateway program is an exciting, innovative, and  practical four-year experience that will complement the holistic and liberal arts curricula they take at Saint Mary's and help them build the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the real world, entrepreneurial ventures, in leadership and in life. It is comprised of a wide variety of interactive workshops on topics ranging from presenting and interviewing techniques, time management, resume writing, cross cultural communication and professional etiquette. It also includes experiential activities employing social media and emerging technologies.

Larisa Genin, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Accreditation at SEBA says, “This program is an effort to implement Saint Mary's mission of educating the whole person, intellectually, personally, and professionally. We are excited that this program will help SEBA undergraduate students to be competitive in the marketplace upon graduation.“

Career Gateway is available to all SEBA undergraduates, and they are strongly encouraged to participate all four years. The program is tailored so that students can enter at any time (freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors) in their academic experience at Saint Mary’s.  Transfer students and those who declare the major after their freshman year can take advantage of the program as well. Those who finish the Career Gateway program will be awarded a special certificate of accomplishment and a transcript summarizing all workshops and events completed.

Mary Coe, Career Gateway Program Coordinator says, “Our students cannot learn all they need to succeed in the classroom.  Career Gateway provides that essential piece of experience in areas such as completing an internship, and getting students prepared for life after graduation. This program is about student success at Saint Mary's College and beyond.”
