SEBA Launches ENACTUS, Undergraduate Student Club That Fulfills 3 Missions: Global, Responsible and Lasallian

EnactusThe School of Economics and Business Administration is proud to announce the launch of an Enactus team at Saint Mary's College. Enactus (previously called “SIFE”) is an international nonprofit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe, and then participate in annual regional, national and international expositions where they present the results of their hard work.

Participating colleges and universities join a network of institutions and academic leaders from around the world as well as executives and Fortune 500 corporations that support Enactus. Enactus currently has a presence in 39 countries with 57,000 active student participants at 1,600 universities, and is known around the world for helping students develop the kind of talent and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world. Larisa Genin, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Accreditation at SEBA says, “Enactus is directly in line with SEBA’s mission of developing our students’ global and responsible perspectives. We are especially excited about the applied experiential learning our students will gain through various hands-on projects that they will be working on, which will further enhance the student experience.”

Enactus world mapThe Saint Mary's College Enactus team is currently facilitated by SEBA Professors Caroline Doran and Patrick Hogan. Doran says, “The strategic focus of Enactus: ‘using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better more sustainable world,’ fits perfectly with Saint Mary's College’s traditional commitment to social justice and a belief in the power of business and education to transform lives.” Participants in Enactus will use their skills to develop projects to better their community and their work will truly embody the motto that defines Saint Mary's College: “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.”

Enactus student president Ryan Summers and vice president Matthew Housman are organizing a kickoff event for Enactus on Wednesday, April 10, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Hagerty Lounge. Summer says, “All Saint Mary’s undergraduate students are invited to this kickoff event where we will provide information about our chapter and goals over (free) dinner. We will be actively recruiting new members to the Enactus team so that we can begin planning our first group project to serve the local community.” If you have any questions about membership and responsibilities, contact Ryan Summers.
