SEBA Releases 2014 Executive Speaker Series Line-up

The School of Economics and Business Administration (SEBA) will be hosting two events in the Executive Speaker Series over the next three weeks, kicking off another year with an impressive line-up of executive guest speakers.

"The Executive Speaker Series is designed to enrich student's learning, connect our school to the business community, and raise the profile of our School and College," said SEBA Dean Zhan Li.

"When you have prominent speakers like these, the Series raises the profile and brand of our academic programs to a new height. These top executives not only bring the latest thinking on leaderships, best business practices, and diverse points of views to campus, but also open doors for our students in terms of resources, internships and jobs," Li added.

Paul Gaffney, President and CEO of After I Go, will be one of those top executives in the coming year. Gaffney will be on campus on February 24 to discusses the future of the employee/employer relationship in a world of globalization and rapid change. Prior to launching After I Go, Gaffney was the president and CEO of AAA in Northern California, Nevada, and Utah, as well as an executive at Charles Schwab, Staples, and Office Depot.

Following Gaffney on March 11 will be the president of McAfee, Michael DeCesare. DeCesare will share his expertise in the world of cyber security, discussing topics such as the current cyber threat landscape and the reinvention of the network.

Gaffney and DeCesare will begin what will be an exceptionally strong year for Executive Speaker Series. On April 22, Steve Burd, former chairman, president and CEO of Safeway will be discussing healthcare reform and Covered California. The final Executive Speaker event will take place on October 8 and will feature a conversation with Dominic Barton, CEO of McKinsey & Company. Barton will be discussing leadership and global business. 

"Through the Executive Speaker Series, our students, faculty and alumni have opportunities to interact with top leaders and thinkers, which makes their SMC learning experience rich and unique," added Li.

The Executive Speaker Series previously hosted prominent leaders from a wide range of backgroungs, including Bernard Tyson, Kaiser Permanente's CEO; Rebecca Jacoby, Chief Technology Officer of Cisco Systems; Kris Snow, President of Cisco Capital; Sarah Friar, Chief Financial Officer of Square; and Erin Flynn, Senior Vice President of
