SEBA Students Finish Top Third in CFA Research Challenge Event
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis.
Both teams prepared a research report on Visa Corporation and presented their report to teams of judges from the investment community. Seventeen teams participated including Berkeley-Haas Business School, Wharton, USF, UC Santa Cruz, Golden Gate University, San Jose State, SF State, Cal State East Bay, and Menlo College. Both Saint Mary's teams finished in the top three. The top team this year was from USF, which had two graduate teams participating. The USF team will go on to Chicago for the national competition.
The College's undergraduate team was composted of Evan Cheung, Alex Husary Anh Maciag, Max Teranen, and Kendrick Wong. The graduate team was composed of Deborah Baur, Justin Amit, Stephan Vorotnyak, and Ryan Phelps
At the conclusion of the competition John Gunn, Chief Investment Officer of Dodge & Cox Investment Management, spoke about his career and building an investment management company. This competition was a real life experience of what analysts do every day.
There are over 100 public companies in the Bay Area, and all have investor relations departments.
