The Saint Mary’s College of California Art Practice Capstone 2022 Exhibition showcases the artworks of four graduating seniors. Interdisciplinary and conceptual, these four bodies of work address a range of inquiries realized through installation art, painting, fiber art, and photography.

The themes of this exhibition include ideas of family history and lineage, women’s work, and fiber craft which often forms a parallel story hidden alongside the dominant narrative. Additionally, the artists are working with critiques of unexamined digital patriarchal culture and its influence on domestic violence, experiences of cultural hybridity, and a tongue-in-cheek, post-colonial nod to the western canon from a Korean-American perspective. The untold history of Native (original) people and a critique of American monuments and colonial historical dominance illuminates art made from a Native perspective.

COVID-19 greatly impacted these artists’ lives, yet through resilience, imagination, and hard work, they embody the idea that art may function as a mirror for society to reflect and consider our deepest collective concerns through their artwork.
