SMC’s Suzi Weissman to Speak at Internationally Recognized Exhibition on Russian-Mexican Artist Vlady

Vlady - Suzi WeissmanSaint Mary’s Professor of Politics Suzi Weissman will take her expertise abroad this week as she participates as a featured speaker at an exhibition entitled “Vlady íntimo” that celebrates the work of Russian-Mexican muralist Vladimir Kibalchich Rusakov, known more commonly as Vlady.

The exhibition, titled “Exposición Vlady: Revolución y Disidencia,” is being hosted by the Colegio de San Ildefonso in Mexico City and is a part of a celebration of 100 years of muralism in San Ildefonso. It will feature more than 200 of Vlady’s works and notebooks.

Weissman will speak at the exhibition as one of the world’s foremost experts on Vlady and his father, Russian revolutionist Victor Serge. Weissman authored a biography of Serge and spent weeks with Vlady going through his father’s papers. She also accompanied Vlady to Russia on his first visit to his home country in 57 years, a trip that came during the time of glasnost.
