SMC Library Pickup is Live!

SMC Library Pickup by Appointment started August 3!

The Saint Mary’s College of California Library will offer scheduled Library pickup of library materials via curbside and walk up. Schedule appointments starting July 27th, and Pickup service will begin on August 3rd!

This service is available by appointment on Mondays 10 am -12 pm and Thursdays 4 pm - 6 pm. Patrons can also return items to our book drops at any time. 

How does SMC Library Pickup work?

  1. Request an item (SMC, Link+, or ILLiad materials) starting July 27th

  2. Receive an email notification when item is ready for pickup

  3. Make an appointment for pickup through the SMC Library Pickup form on our website. Schedule appointments beginning July 27th; Pickup begins August 3rd.

  4. Choose a day, time, and curbside or walk-up

  5. Call us when you arrive (925) 631-4229

  • What are days and hours the library will be open for pickup?

SMC Library Pickup hours will be Monday 10 am - 12 pm and Thursday 4 pm - 6 pm.

To place a hold on library materials on the Library website:

  1. Log in to https://albert.stmarys-ca.edu/ or the Link+ Catalog with your SMC ID
  2. Search for your item in the Catalog
  3. Select Place a request.
  • What happens if I was scheduled for pick up, but I missed my window?

Any items not picked up during the pre-scheduled pick up window will be placed back into circulation. Please let us know, (925) 631-4229 or Ask Us! if you would like to schedule a new appointment or place a new hold. 

  • What should I do if I have mobility issues and I cannot pick up my materials?

Call (925) 631-4229 after you schedule a pick up. Staff assistance will be provided to those who need help.

  • When should I receive a notice that my items are ready to pick up?

Available SMC materials should be processed within 48 to 72 hours. Link+ and Interlibrary loan materials will require a 96-hour (4 day) quarantine period after we receive them, so expect delays before Pick Up is possible. Order your materials early!

  • How do I return items?

Library materials may be returned to either book drop--one by the library parking lot, the other near the front entrance.

  • How much time do I have to return my items?

  • What safety measures are being taken for the community and staff?

We will be employing social distancing and public health recommendations for operations. Library staff will be wearing face coverings and wearing gloves when handling materials. All returned items will be placed in quarantine for 96 hours. Items will be in a bag for pick up to reduce contact.

  • When will all in-person library services and full access to the library facilities resume?

We are working to reopen all library services and access as soon as possible in a safe, coordinated, and phased effort. We will continue to follow campus, local, state, and public health guidelines for operations.
