SMC Poetry Professor's Work Featured In New York Times
The New York Times Style Magazine has published a poem by Matthew Zapruder, a new poetry professor in Saint Mary's English Department. Zapruder's work "Poem for a Coin," appears in the March 24, 2013 print edition of the newspaper's magazine. The online version of the magazine features an audio clip of Zapruder reading his poem.
Zapruder is a celebrated author of several collections of poetry including Come On All You Ghosts (2010), The Pajamaist (2006), and American Linden (2002). He has co-translated, with historian Radu Ioanid, Romanian poet Eugen Jebeleanu’s last collection, Secret Weapon: Selected Late Poems (2008). His honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Lannan Literary Fellowship, and a 2008 May Sarton Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
He has taught at the New School; in the low residency MFA program the University of California Riverside, Palm Desert; and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst’s Juniper Summer Writing Institute. Zapruder is also the co-editor of the Seattle-based independent poetry press Wave Books.
