SMC's Ellen Veomett Provides Analysis on Partisan Gerrymandering for Washington Post

With voters set to cast their votes in a host of new Congressional districts this November, the impact of partisan gerrymandering remains an important topic nationwide. To analyze the upcoming midterm elections through the use of a new tool called the "GEO (Geography and Election Outcomes) metric," Saint Mary's Professor of Mathematics Ellen Veomett joined her research collaborators to write on the topic for the Washington Post. Veomett, who has taught a class on the topic of gerrymandering during January Term, and the group developed the metric to account for both voter history and geographic data when determining the impact of gerrymandering.
