SMC's Production of "Angels" Invited to Kennedy Center's Regional College Theater Festival

The Saint Mary's College production of "Angels in America" has been recognized as an "outstanding production" in by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. The fall 2010 production of the play by Tony Kushner is one of only four college productions from Region VII invited to perform at the regional festival in February.

The festival, which covers schools in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Northern California, Northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming, will be held February 14-18 at Humboldt State University in Aracata, California.

SMC's spring 2010 production of "Sera" was named a Region VII first alternate. Written by SMC alumna Angela Santillo '05, "Sera" is also a regional finalist for the David Mark Cohen National Playwriting Award, which recognizes outstanding new plays premiered by a college or university. "Sera" will be presented as a staged reading at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival's regional conference.

Lino Rivera, chair of the Performing Arts Department, said the honor was a recognition of the "brilliant" work done by the student actors, designers and crew, and by directors Reid Davis and Rebecca Engle.
