Spanish University Students Studying Business at SMC


Graduate business students from Spain are studying sports management and corporate leadership at Saint Mary's College during the first two weeks of August in an intensive program that includes visits to top Bay Area sports franchises and corporations.

The students from the La Salle School of the University Ramon Llull of Barcelona are spending the first week in classroom sessions with faculty members from Saint Mary"s Graduate Business Program and other management experts. Beginning Aug. 7, they will meet with executives from corporations including Chevron, Genentech and Sun Microsystems.

Twelve of the students - who include former professional basketball players and the current holder of the female long jump record in the Special Olympics – are focusing on sports event management. In addition to classes, they will visit facilities managers and executives at AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants), Pebble Beach Golf Resort, McAfee Stadium (Oakland A's) and HP Pavilion (San Jose Sharks).

The other 23 students in the Executive MBA program are studying subjects that include marketing strategy, venture capital and innovation management.
