Stella Santamaría is the daughter of Cuban and Guatemalan immigrants. Stella was born in Los Angeles and raised in Miami. Santamaría was a Teaching Assistant under Brenda Hillman.  She earned an MFA in Creative Writing, Poetry studying with Matthew Zapruder as well. Her poetry has been recently published in Juked, The Brooklyn Review, The Furious Gazelle, Pennsylvania English, The Courtship of Winds, Cathexis Northwest Press and The Rumpus. Santamaría performed spoken word in the Lab in San Francisco and in New York City at the Nuyorican Poets Café.  She was featured in the HBO Films and CNN Documentary Latino in America.
