Summer Faculty Institute and Learning Community on Service-Learning

The institute has been postponed until Summer 2014. Please check back for more information.

Join our dynamic learning community this summer to create or enhance a service-learning course at your institution.

Participants will learn best practices and leave with a solid foundation for implementing a quality service-learning course.  Work with like-minded colleagues in the lovely setting of Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, California.

This event is an intentional work-space for a limited number of participants to focus on the conceptualization and the “nuts and bolts” of creating a quality learning experience for students, faculty, and community partners.  Interested participants should understand this is NOT a traditional conference with break-out presentations or keynote speakers.  Instead, the two and half days are designed to learn and work with 12 other colleagues from around the country to spend the time, attention, and energy we often do not have the luxury of devoting in our typical work lives and setting.  The institute is designed and intended for instructors in early stages of incorporating service-learning into their courses.  Participants are encouraged to bring an existing or draft syllabus to use.  The work includes time for personal and professional reflection on why one chooses to utilize this type of teaching and learning.
